Crashworthiness of poplar wood veneer tubes

چکیده

This work studies the potential of using wooden tubes for crash applications. The were made from 1 mm thick “I214” poplar veneers, according to different stacking sequences. Four configurations characterized under static crushing (5 mm/min) and one that performed best ([90/04/90]) was chosen undergo dynamic tests a drop weight tower (5.7 m/s). configuration presents significant energy absorption performance in (31.6 J / g) (28.5 material is natural, ecological (low carbon footprint), recyclable, low cost comparison with other materials such as composite materials. As composites, position, number, orientation plies directly affect amount absorbed. use poplar, weakest woods mechanical terms, shows possibilities wood this use.
